Hog Heaven
Our pigs live the kinds of lives pigs were intended to live – outside, in the sunshine, rooting and foraging for food in the pastures and woodlands of the farm. We supplement their diet with locally-sourced grains and veggie scraps from the garden, resulting in the best pork you’ve ever tasted. We offer whole and half shares of pork, which are usually ready in late summer or early fall. You can also find cuts of our delicious pork at the North Adams Farmers’ Market.
What’s in a pork share?
A full share of pork includes, on average, between 120-140 pounds of meat; a half share between 60-70 pounds, or about 4 or 5 full grocery bags. A typical half share, for example, might include 23 pork chops, 2 roasts, 1 ham, 8 ham steaks, 8 lbs of bacon, 3 lbs of ribs, 9 lbs of ground pork (or sausage), etc.
Cost
Pork shares offer a significant savings over buying cuts at market. For 2013, full shares are priced at $6.50/lb, half shares at $6.95/lb. This is the price for the weight of the pork that you take home, not the hot hanging weight or live weight, which are both substantially more, and this price includes processing and smoking of hams and bacon. Thus, a full share would run between $780 and $910 and a half share between $415 and $485. We require a $100 deposit on full shares and a $50 deposit on half shares.
