About

Square Roots Farm provides local food to local people, with a focus on nurturing the connections between people, food, and the land.  Located on 185 acres in Lanesborough, MA, the farm is in its fourth year of production in 2013.  We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables for a 60 member CSA and raise pastured chickens, pigs, eggs, and turkeys for our customers.  While many of our CSA members also are happy chicken, turkey, egg, and pork customers, you do not have to be a CSA member to enjoy our delicious pasture-raised meats.

We strive to be as sustainable as possible in all that we do and we believe that our customers are our best and most stringent inspectors.  We view synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, growth-hormones and antibiotics as short-sighted solutions designed to mask symptoms of unhealthy agriculture, and we prefer to engage in the search for long-term, sustainable solutions such as crop rotation, cover cropping, diversity and rotational grazing, choosing to work with natural systems rather than trying to subjugate them.

We are also dedicated to making sure our high quality food is available to all members of our community. We have committed to offering 20% of our CSA shares to low income households, and with the help of local non-profit Hoosac Harvest, we have been able to do this in every year of operation.
